The Society is based around a strong branch network - over
50 from the Far North to Southland. Most branches organise programmes of local
activities including conservation projects, walks, trips, and guest speakers.
Each branch is run by a committee elected annually by members and organises
activities in it's own area.
Council
The Society is governed by a council made up of representatives from every branch.
The council elects the national executive and has overall control of the organisation.
Executive
Each year the council elects a president, deputy president, treasurer and up
to 10 other executive members. The executive meets at least four times a year
and oversees the Society's affairs in accordance with general policy and the
wishes of the council.
Staff
Forest and Bird employs professional staff to work on conservation campaigns
and provide support to branches. In Wellington the Society has a central office
of approximately a dozen staff, and there are regional offices in Auckland,
Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.
