It's everyone's business
Human activity is having a noticeable affect on the earth's climate; changing our weather and altering the natural world. Whilst we wait for policy makers there are things we can all do to reduce our own climate changing activity.
Sustainable living in carbon neutral Wellington
The Climate Action Group formed in 2010 to address the issue of climate change; this is our focus. The Group brings together people who are deeply concerned about the threat to our world by human induced climate change.
'Climate action' aims to be a positive 'community building' experience sharing the many solutions available that will bring about the changes that we must make to protect ourselves and the natural world. Join us in building this group and help effect these changes.
Meetings are open to all and held monthly, often in a café with a relaxed informal atmosphere. It is about discussion and action; about gathering ideas that together work towards the vision of sustainable living in a carbon neutral Wellington.
Meetings are advertised in 'Inbrief' e-notices
What's it to do with us.
There is a great deal of literature on both the causes of climate change and its likely impact. Many NGO's are working on this issue and its of concern to us also.
Meagan Miller, our Climate Action Group co-ordinator says “In the last 10 years we have had to bear witness to the hottest 10 years ever recorded by humans. Despite being a sun lover, I know that a global temperature rise of 2+ degrees or more will be devastating to life as we know it.
Climate Change threatens to be a run away train; once the greenhouse gas levels get too high, it will remain at these high levels for millions of years, even with forested regions.
More than 90 percent of climate scientists now agree that everything in nature is under serious threat along with humanity itself. Many plants and animals will not adapt and survive in this changed climate.
I and many others refuse to put the issue in the too hard basket. 'Business as usual is not an option' we must change our ways to survive.” There are lots of people already making changes to help reduce the excessive carbon appetite we have in New Zealand. It's not hard to make small changes that can make a big difference so make the decision to join us.”
