Ecological Field Crew Full Time, Fixed Term

We are looking for a team-player who would like to join us to assist with pest plant management, predator control and monitoring, revegetation in and around the Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve, and become part of our friendly, Te Hoiere Bat Recovery team. We have a flexible work policy. This is a temporary, full-time field-based job, 37.5 hours per week, four days a week. Field work will include herbicide application, using manual and powered cutting tools, checking and baiting trap lines, predator monitoring, track maintenance, native species planting and plant maintenance. Equipment and appropriate training will be provided.
You will be part of a small, close-knit, and passionate team, driving toward habitat improvement gains that will support recovering pekapeka populations in the catchment. As our understanding and knowledge of bat population dynamics grows, our support response needs to be adapted. So, highly organised people with the ability to think on their feet and the flexibility to adapt to changing situations is who we need on the team.
The new colleague we are looking for will have:
- A great work ethic, willing to just get “stuck-in”.
- A high level of physical fitness and tenacity, as we will be working in sometimes difficult terrain, in all sorts of weather conditions.
- A passion for the outdoors, native plants, ecology and wildlife.
- A positive and proactive attitude towards Health and Safety.
- Outstanding team member qualities – with well-developed collaborative working skills.
- The ability to follow instructions and are great at reporting back.
In addition, the following will be highly valued:
- A full, clean NZ Drivers Licence.
- Own vehicle, or ability to get to a rendezvous point each day.
- Experience with 4WD and trailers.
- GrowSafe and First Aid certified.
- Chainsaw and scrub cutter experience.
- Experience with using GPS and outdoor apps.
- Well-developed native and pest plant id skills.
