  Dawn Chorus Introduction

Restoring the Dawn Chorus

Our forests are quieter than they used to be. Native bird populations have declined, and continue to decline, due to loss of habitat and predation by introduced pests. Forest and Bird is protecting and restoring natural areas and campaigning to make sure Government agencies do their bit too.

Campaign Goals

  • Protecting and restoring native forests to provide habitat for native birds

  • Protecting and restoring unique habitats, such as wetlands, for native species

  • Preventing extinctions and increasing populations of native plants and animals by eradicating or controlling pests, such as ferrets, stoats, feral cats, deer, goats and possums
