If you want to get off the beaten trail and experience the real
Vanuatu, come and visit Vatthe's tropical forest on the shores of Big Bay on
Vanuatu's Island of Espiritu Santo.
Vatthe Conservation Lodge is nestled on the edge of the small remote village
of Matantas, just a few minutes walk from the magnificent black sand beach and
sheltered swimming waters of Big Bay, and Vatthe lowland tropical forest.
You will be welcomed into
the traditional life of a typical Vanuatu island village. Local guides, speaking
in either Bislama, English or French, will help you explore the 3,700ha of lowland
alluvial rainforest with it's spectacular buttressed trees, and show you the
Vanuatu Buff-bellied Flycatcher - Vanuatu's only endemic bird genus. And you
can soak up the ambiance of a traditional village, and learn about ni Vanuatu
culture.
Vatthe Lodge and Conservation Area is owned and managed by the Matantas and
Sara Communities and your visit will help them continue to protect their way
of life, their forest and wildlife.
