WE ARE RIGHT NOW URGENTLY SEEKING PEOPLE TO BECOME MEMBERS OF THE BRANCH COMMITTEE. Because of resignations by long-serving members mainly for health reasons, our committee is down to half a dozen people. Given the size of our branch's membership, this means that only a few people are doing a lot of work. We need others to help spread this load. Being on the committee is not an arduous responsibility however; you only do as much work as you are able to do. We endeavour to spread the work by allocating people to only those tasks they feel capable of doing. Below are described activities committee members are involved with and information about us. If you are interested and would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us; it will be received very warmly. Email the chair at forestandbird@gmail.com
The Central Auckland branch encompasses exactly the same boundaries as Auckland City Council. It is one of the largest branches in the country, with over 1400 members. It is just one of some seven branches in the Auckland region.
The Central Auckland branch has regular public meetings (bimonthly) and trips (at least monthly), and irregular events like displays and stands and special events, and also a full KCC programme. For details like date and venue for all of these, please refer to "Events" or refer to our latest branch newsletter, Te Karere. Anyone, including both members from other F&B branches and even non-members, are welcome to these meetings and trips, unless otherwise stated. However, if spaces are limited on trips, then preference is given to members. Events for F&B in the entire Auckland region are shown by each branch in their latest newsletters and on their websites. Look also on theEcoevents website. Members from any branch are encouraged to look at joining these trips as well.
The branch has a very active KCC section with its own programme of events, and a Green Schools Award for effort in conservation by local primary and intermediate schools. It also sponsors some university and tech prizes for biological research.
The branch communicates with our members by email as much as we can. An electronic version of our local newsletter is sent to members whom we have an email address for. As well as the local newsletter, there are irregular messages about urgent local conservation matters sent out too. Central office also sends e-News every three months, and e-Alerts when urgent matters arise . Our branch's KCC has an email-tree whereby information about KCC events is sent to KCC members. If you would like to receive emails, please click here to update your membership details.
The branch also has stands, stalls and displays to promote F&B and KCC membership, and a good working relationship with the Auckland Zoo.
The emphasis of our branch's projects is to contribute towards creating bush 'corridors' across the city. Members can contribute towards this project themselves by planting in their gardens to provide bird habitat
