This is a new recreational and wetland reserve that is being developed by KCDC on the site of the old sewerage ponds, at the junction of Rutherford Drive and Paetawa Road .
The project has been in progress for five years and good progress has been made in planting around the pond edges and along the road frontage. It is expected that part of the reserve will be opened to the public within the next twelve months.
Members of Forest and Bird have been serving on a focus committee overseeing progress, and an opportunity now exists for the formation of a “Friends of the Pharazyn Reserve” group to assist with planting, weed control and general development, organised along the same lines as other local Friends Groups, such as those of the Waikanae River and the Waikanae Lagoons.
