South Auckland

About Us

The South Auckland branch is one of seven Forest and Bird branches in the Auckland region, covering Manukau and the surrounding districts. Historically Auckland was once covered in broadleaf podocarp forest, except where volcanic eruptions had altered the landscape. The branch’s two reserves Olive Davis & Ngaheretuku, are vestiges of this ancient forestland. These two areas were historically milled for Kauri, Rimu and Totara and are both currently under regeneration.

What we do

The South Auckland branch is involved in forest restoration, pest busting, litter-picking and improving the region’s waterways to allow fish passage. This branch also looks after its two reserves, Olive Davis & Ngaheretuku which require constant up keep and attention.

Branch Issues

The heritage property on the Olive Davis reserve is having a $200,000 makeover, which is due to be complete in June. A massive clean up has also been organised to combat the use of the Ngaheretuku reserve as a dumping ground for rubbish. More

Volunteering

Volunteers are always needed to help out on our Olive Davis Reserve in Alfriston and the Ngaheretuku Reserve in Whitford/Clevedon. We also need green thumbs to help us with our regular planting sessions.  Contact Graham Falla (276 3092) or Lindsey Britton (292 9215) More...
