Orca sightings: Petone, Days Bay, Eastbourne
Lucky locals were in for a treat yesturday when a pod of killer whales (orca) were sighted cruising around the northern and eastern areas of the harbour. The Dom Post website has some nice footage - see here.
Keep your eyes peeled and get your cameras at the ready. Hopefully these beautiful dolphins may hang around for a few more days yet :)

Marine energy trail coming to Moa Point
At our April gathering marine energy company Power Projects came and talked to us about 'Wave Energy Technology New Zealand ' - a collaborative project working on a new techniology to capture wave energy. A small scale unit has already been trialled off Canterbury coast, but now, a slightly bigger unit is to be trialled in our unique south coast conditions off Moa Point. The unit is planned for installation off the coast later this year. Please note - there is no intention to establish a commercial wave energy farm in this location, it is just a trial for development of the technology.
For more information visit their website: Wave Energy Technology New Zealand
