Middelmost Mudfish Project Planting Day

The sun's warming the land up and it's time to get outside. The Middelmost Mudfish Project is back after our winter break...and a change of ownership of the land. Kent, the new owner, is keen to carry on and have lots of visitors to the wetland area- fantastic news!

Thanks to some funding from WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature), we'll be carrying on planting our natives with around 250 plants, continuing last years work along a spring that has the 'Nationally Critical' Canterbury mudfish (think as endangered as the Kākāpo parrot).

Driving instructions: From North/East Christchurch head to Oxford from the northern motorway, then take Woodside Rd, Mounseys Rd then turn onto Island Rd and meet at the first house on the left. Don't take Island Rd all the way unless you are happy to go through the ford. From West Christchurch take Old West Road and go over the Waimakariri Gorge bridge, then along Harmans Gorge Rd - don't take Ashworths Rd or Raineys Rd unless again you like fording a river! Carry along Island Rd until it turns into a gravel road then first house on the left. Google map: https://goo.gl/maps/kGNGCTvSjjL2

Bring spades (if you have one), gardening gloves, water bottles, clothes for both rain or shine e.g. rain coat, outdoors shoes/gumboots (with closed toes as there are a few thistles). Event will be on rain or shine (so please fingers crossed for good weather!) We'll hopefully finish up around 3 -3 30pm followed by an afternoon tea (food will be provided, but welcome to add something to the mix).
