North Canterbury: Weedbusters volunteer day, Clifton Hill

We are delighted to announce our second weedbusting event for Sumner, this time at Clifton Hill!! The spread of invasive weeds is one of the key threats to biodiversity in New Zealand and we are keen to tackle and try and eradicate pest plants that are spreading through the Port Hills.

At this session we will be tackling wilding pines on Clifton Hill.

This weedbusting session is supported by the Christchurch City Council Port Hills Rangers who will provide the tools and gear required. So all you have to do is turn up! Please wear suitable clothing (warm clothes, hats, wet weather gear if required, sunhat etc) and your own drink/snacks if required, and wear sturdy boots or gumboots.

This initiative builds on the work we are doing at Mahoe-nui Bush Restoration Project.

Meet: at the corner of Clifton Terrace and Panaroma Road / Revelation Drive - see map attached.

Time: 1-3pm

Please bring: sturdy footwear, warm clothing, hats for all occasions, drink bottle/water, sunscreen, medical supplies if required (eg epi-pens for allergies). Might be useful to wear long trousers for protection.

Tools: handsaws, glyphosate gel and gloves will be supplied.

Postponement date: Saturday 14th May (same time, same place)

Please let Vanessa know if you intend to come along - although if you decide to come on the day then feel free to just turn up! Any questions please email Vanessa or phone 021 0255 6918 or 3840051.
