PLANTING ON MOTUTAPU ISLAND
20 June 2010
Join us for a planting day on Motutapu Island. This is a Kiwi (Kids) Conservation Club event but we encourage ALL members of Forest and Bird in the Auckland area to join us. Adults and families can join in with the planting.
Motutapu is experiencing an exciting, large scale and long term transformation, as seen in recent F&B magazine articles and TK branch newsletters, and will be talked about at our March branch meeting (21st March 2.30 Parnell Community Centre). Come and hear about the results of the recent pest eradication first hand, and then help with more planting out on the island.
Motutapu Island is linked by a causeway to Rangitoto, and the Motutapu Island Restoration Trust is working hard to restore the natural and cultural landscapes of this beautiful island - "breathing new life into an ancient landform". There are some new native birds living there now that pest control has been successful in eradicating animal pests.
Please note the meeting location has changed – we are now meeting outside the foreign exchange bureau, under the arch of the Ferry Building, between 8.45-9am on the day of departure to collect a ‘volunteer’ card from the Trust representative for a discounted ferry fare ($20 for adults, $10 for children).
The ferry leaves at 9.15am and returns at 3.30pm. The ferry also picks up from Devonport Wharf. There will be a sausage sizzle at the newly restored Reid Homestead in Home Bay (near the wharf) at the end of the day before catching the ferry back.
Please bring water and lunch, suitable footwear, warm clothing, a raincoat and gardening gloves (if you have them).
Bookings have now closed.
Further details will be sent to those booked by Marguerite: mlp418@gmail.com
