Seaweek Dune Day

Tangimoana Beach is one of the largest remaining pockets of parabolic dune system in the area. Explore the wild, dynamic dunes and wetlands searching for native critters with a DOC ranger. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the beach. After lunch, learn about and help with some of the work being done to help conserve the coast.

Directions:
From State Highway 1, south of Sanson, turn west onto Campion Road. Follow this to the t-intersection, the turn left onto Tangimoana Road. Follow this to Tangimoana settlement. At the intersection, turn left onto Tangimoana Beach Road and follow this to the road end (it is buried under a dune). Find a place to park off the road and meet at the ‘A Last Coastal Remnant’ sign.

Bring your lunch, plenty to drink, protection from the weather (sunscreen, hat, raincoat, etc), and wear sturdy, comfortable shoes as there will be quite a bit of walking. For those keen, a pruning saw would be helpful for controlling any sand acacia trees, & a plastic bag to put rubbish in.

This event will be weather and number dependent so it is important that you contact Kelly or Chay to register.
