Damn the dam: Mokihinui River update

01 Oct 2008

Hearings have started on Meridian Energy’s plans to dam the West Coast’s Mokihinui River. Forest & Bird’s case will be made on the October 20 and 21, with expert evidence given on ecology, natural character and freshwater fish habitat.

Forest & Bird Conservation Officer Debs Martin and Green Party MP Metiria Turei are explaining the threats to the spectacular river gorge at meetings in Auckland and Christchurch. The first meeting is on October 14 at 7.30pm at Auckland University’s Tamaki campus in Glen Innes (Building 732-201), then on October 15 at 7.30pm at Massey University’s Albany campus.
