Forest & Bird is disappointed at the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf Bill, which was reported back from select committee in mid-May.
Forest & Bird Conservation Advocate Claire Browning said it failed to protect New Zealand’s marine environment and ignored our
international legal obligations.
She said the Bill created uncertainty for industry and risks for the marine environment. It did not comply with international law obligations New
Zealand has signed up to.
Claire Browning said legislation to protect New Zealand’s massive offshore environment was important and urgently needed, and should be
the offshore version of the Resource Management Act.
