Forest & Bird has sent Best Fish Guides to all fish and chip shops in New Zealand.
This follows our success with Burger Wisconsin, a nationwide burger chain that switched from unsustainable deepwater dory/oreo to tarakihi after seeing the Best Fish Guide.
Forest & Bird’s Dunedin and Tauranga branches have encouraged local retailers to sell sustainable seafood. Of the 1600-plus letters sent, we have had several responses of interest.
We are offering a one-year amber or blue endorsement of shops and a free supply of Best Fish Guides.
Amber endorsement is for working towards becoming a sustainable seafood retailer, displaying the Best Fish Guide poster and providing Best Fish Guides for customers .
Blue endorsement is our highest endorsement for retailers who have pledged to only sell fish species we rank as the most sustainable seafood choices on our Best Fish Guide.
They also agree to display the Best Fish Guide poster and provide Best Fish Guide wallet cards for customers to use.
You can help by mentioning the Best Fish Guide to your local takeaways, checking that they received our letter and encouraging them to follow up.
