Forest & Bird celebrated its many conservation achievements during 86 years and launched a new brand for the future at a special event on November 11 at the Wellington head office.

His Excellency The Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand spoke about the importance of Forest & Bird in protecting New Zealand’s environment, and the not-for-profit organisation’s reliance on donations and its nationwide network of volunteers to continue its work.
Longstanding conservationist and former Forest & Bird president Gerry McSweeney outlined the value of Forest & Bird and the Department of Conservation in restoring populations of endangered native birds around New Zealand, especially through pest control.
Forest & Bird Marine Conservation Advocate Kirstie Knowles highlighted the broad range of nature that Forest & Bird speaks for, including marine creatures, plants and underwater areas.
The urgent need to protect the naturally arid South Island Mackenzie Basin from intensive farming and irrigation was the focus for Forest & Bird South Island Conservation Manager Chris Todd.
