Submissions due for DOC's 10 year regional conservation plans

28 Feb 2013

Auckland, Northland and Waikato Conservation Management Strategies (CMS) are now open for public consultation. The consultation period will close at 5pm Friday 15 March.

Forest & Bird is preparing submissions on behalf of branches, but members are invited to make their own submissions as individual members of the public.

CMSs are the Department of Conservation’s 10-year plan for each region. Each describes how the treasured places, and native plants and animals under DOCs care will be managed.

They are a fundamental management tool that allows DOC to implement legal, policy and strategic goals. They guide decisions made on concessions, describes conservation actions and identify how to integrate management of places to achieve national conservation outcomes. DOC has not yet released CMSs for the other regions.

Your local knowledge of conservation places in your area can make a difference. Be a voice for nature and make a submission about conservation places important to you.
Submissions can be made online, sent by post or email. You can use DOC’s submission form, or write your own submission.
