Description: Blue warehou is a coastal species, unlike other warehou (silver and white warehou), common in depths of 20 to 200m in cooler southern waters south of Cook Strait. It is popular in fish and chip shops. The main fishing grounds are Cook Strait and the West Coast of the South Island.

Ecological concerns: Limited research, the unknown size of fishstocks, the lack of a management plan, the habitat damage caused by bottom trawling, non-target fish bycatch and the associated ecological impacts caused by the fishing methods.
