Forest & Bird’s post-election briefing aims to help the new Government develop policies which support a truly clean, green and sustainable New Zealand.
A Sustainable Vision outlines Forest & Bird’s vision for conservation and sustainability – on land, in our oceans, for our freshwater, and in managing the challenges of sustainable energy generation and meeting the global challenge of climate change.
It also outlines the role of Forest & Bird and other non-government organizations in conservation – and how the government can best support conservation and the environment through effective policies and legislation.
A Sustainable Vision will be sent to all MPs – not just those in Government. Forest & Bird General Manager Mike Britton says all our elected representatives have a role to play in ensuring that the environment is enhanced and protected.
“New Zealand’s clean, green image and environmental sustainability underpin our $17 billion tourism industry, marketing of our primary products in export markets, and indeed our survival on this planet. These are issues which are of vital importance, not just to Conservation and Environment Ministers, but to the Government – and indeed our Parliament – as a whole.”
“New Zealand faces significant challenges in environmental sustainability, and our political leaders will be at the forefront of meeting those challenges. We look forward to working with them to achieve the best results for conservation and the environment.”
