Bellbird, Photo: Marguerite Quin
Walking tracks: None.
Getting there: The reserve is located on Clarke Road, Northwest of Geraldine on the edge of Waihi Gorge. Off Woodbury Road, drive onto Rae Road, then take your first left onto Clarke Road (which is not signposted). The reserve itself is signposted and there is a stile for public access.
The locals: Bellbird, fantail, kereru, riflemen and grey warbler.
Lying close to Geraldine, Conway’s bush is undergoing a prolific regeneration of canopy trees: totara, matai and kahikatea. The reserve is actively managed by members of the South Canterbury branch, who organise bi-annual bush care days to remove weeds such as sycamore, ash, holly and broom.
