Manawatu-Wanganui

You are here:

Forest & Bird is an active voice in the Manawatu-Wanganui region for the protection of our rivers and wetlands, such as Manawatu River and Estuary, in particular protecting them from impacts of agriculture and pollution.

The Manawatu Branch’s Race for Our River multisport event raises awareness of the need to protect the region’s freshwater resources, and its Reel Earth Environmental Film Festival informs people about everything from natural history to sustainable resource use.

Forest & Bird also manages projects at a number of reserves around the region, including Bushy Park near Wanganui. The reserve is fitted with a predator-proof fenced reserve where native species including kiwi, saddlebacks and North Island robins thrive safe from predation by introduced pests. Visitors are welcome.

Further north in the Rangitikei region, members take part in bat monitoring surveys and work to reduce the spread of wild contorta pines througout the Ruapehu region.
