Protecting our native plants, animals and wild places, on land and in our oceans. Help us to help nature.
You are here:
Southland is home to many threatened marine creatures, including hector’s dolphins, NZ sea-lions and yellow-eyed penguins – three species that Forest & Bird is working vigorously to protect!
You can help us protect the amazing array of native wildlife in the region – for example you can help out at work days at our Te Rere Yellow-eyed Penguin Reserve in Southland.
Forest & Bird is also advocating for increased pest control in Waitutu Forest in Southland to protect threatened species such as kaka and native mistletoes from being wiped out by introduced pests.
We’re also advocating for protection of Doubtful Sound from potential impact of proposed increases in hydro generation on the Waiau River.
