West Coast

Fed by an high annual rainfall, the West Coast is blanketed in lush rainforest that is home to a range of native creatures from powelliphanta snails to kaka.

The West coast branch is working to protect this preciou environment by advocating for greater pest control and opposing mining operations that threaten to destroy prize conservation land, such as the Denniston plateau.

It is currently opposing an extension to  coal mining operations into the pristine Upper Waimangaroa catchment/Happy Valley which is prime habitat for kiwi and native Powelliphanta giant snails.

It has successfully campaigned to protect the Mokihinui River and its surrounding forests from a hydro dam.
