Forest & Bird Upper Hutt branch is trying to save the Silverstream Spur from being exchanged for land in Pinehaven, and use for residential development. This public owned land is the subject of a Land Exchange arrangement made in 2016 between UHCC and Guildford Timber Company Ltd to exchange the Silverstream Spur for a block of GTC land in Pinehaven, which is steep, to be used as a potential reserve. There was no public consultation at the time for this Memorandum of Understanding.

F&B UH wish the spur to be retained as a public reserve and planted in native plants and to act as part of a ecological corridor across the valley from Keith George Memorial Park on the western hills to link to the back of Pinehaven and onto the green space to Wainuiomata Mainland in the south and north to Akatarawa.

It would also make a very attractive entrance/exit to Upper Hutt.
