The Waihi branch has 30 members spread between the Waihi Basin, Waihi Beach, Katikati and Whangamata.
Branch matters are generally discussed every Tuesday between the members who work in the HELP nursery. The Waihi Branch covers the areas between the Waihi Basin, Waihi Beach, Katikati and Whangamata. Plant propagation, pest control and working at the HELP nursery are just some of the activities our branch is undertaking to help restore the Waihi area to its natural ecological state.

In association with HELP Waihi Inc, a programme has been created to carry out pest control along the Waitete Valley. This will is in conjunction with another planting project in adjoining sections of bush and along the Waitete river side.
Spray work is also being carried out by HELP or voluntarily between the Karangahake Walkway and the Ohinemuri river. This involves drilling unwanted exotics and light release spraying.
Waihi section has Forest and Bird funding to take a team to the area beyond Ngatuhoa Lodge in the Kaimai Ranges. This project involves a team of volunteers to work on poisoning unwanted exotics such as eucalypts, cryptomeria and gingkos adjacent to the Opuiaki intensive pest control area.
Waihi Central School students planting beside Waitete Stream.
Waihi branch has planted areas in the Morgan Park and Girlmour Reserve. Further planting and maintenance work is needed in these areas.
Waihi Section and HELP Waihi Inc has received a DOC grant to help plant up an area between the Karangahake Walkway and the Ohinemuri river near the Rahu Saddle bend. Voluntary effort is also required to help propagate these areas.
Volunteers can get involved in numerous ways. There is a plant propagation project at the Waihi Inc nursery and the Opuiaki exotics clearance project involves taking a team to the area beyond Ngatuhoa Lodge in the Kaimai Ranges to work on poisoning unwanted exotics.
