At 7:30pm on 23 September 2020, we will meet (COVID conditions permitting) at Waikanae Presbyterian Church Hall, 43 Ngaio Road, Waikanae to hear Mika Zollner speak on monitoring Kenepuru Stream.

Mika observed Kenepuru Stream, and Cannons Creek as its major contributory, over three months from November 2019 to January 2020, as part of a project for her Master of Environmental Science.

Mika investigated how best to monitor the stream, which is bound to be affected by the urban intensification of Porirua East. She monitored an area of this urban stream intensively using a time-lapse camera and equipment designed to measure levels of potentially toxic metals, as well as flow and turbidity (amount of materials suspended in the water), and how this changes during storm events.

With so much urban development being undertaken in our branch area, and many streams (and rivers) to protect, Mika's talk is bound to be interesting, and help us defend our piece of nature now, and for the future.

We'd love to have you join us, and any interested public can attend, but numbers may need to be limited according to COVID rules (currently 100)
