Confessions of a Bird Nerd

For the last 50 years or more Rod has been chasing birds, either professionally or as an enthusiastic amateur. From post-graduate research in zoology, through his first “real” science job with Forest and Bird, and a career in science management and international conservation diplomacy with DSIR and DOC, he has finally graduated to become a semi-useful volunteer birdwatcher and stoat trapper.

Rod’s talk will include stories from his time listening-in on robin communications, migrating with wrybills, helping to save kōkako from logging and other threats, travels in the Pacific including helping to save the kākerōri in Rarotonga, and some perspectives on bird conservation then and now.

Calendars ($17.99) and Diaries ($24.99) will be on sale at the meeting. Cash preferred.

Supper and a chat after.
