Mike Avis, Marlborough District Council Biosecurity Officer will be talking about Significant Natural Areas (SNA), a project about identifying and protecting areas of natural significance.
In Marlborough, the SNA project has been very successful, with a wide range of landowners involved in the programme, including central government, QEII Trust and community-based conservation organisations and looking at funding opportunities to help with fencing, weed control, pest control and planting of native species.
Mike runs the Significant Natural Areas programme for the Marlborough District Council, working primarily with landowners who qualify and are keen to participate. In his presentation he will give an overview of the programmes’ origins and some highlights of the work of the programme over the last 12 months or so. The talk will be illustrated with slides showing what has been achieved and what has really caught his eye.
