We will travel about an hour and 15 minutes from Dunedin to a locked gate on the Eldorado Track off Mahinerangi Road and walk to the old gold diggings beside Deep Stream on the eastern edge of the Lammerlaw Range (about two hour’s walk each way), oberving regeneration in the tussock grassland.

This area was part of the 5000 ha block burnt by the “Middlemarch” fire (which is actually some considerable distance from Middlemarch).
