Bird Lover and Bird Expert, Dr Colin Miskelly, will share a talk on the birds he found, heard and counted as he walked the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff along the Te Araroa Trail (without cheating). Colin will look at the difference (if any) that predator trapping had on the abundance of native birds. And he will also cover some of the logistics of walking the trail over a summer (Nov23 – Mar24). For more detail, see Te Araroa Trail | Te Papa’s Blog.

Dr Miskelly was awarded the Cranwell Cup which is awarded to a practising scientist for excellence in communicating to the public in 2024. He has also been elected as a Fellow of the Orthinological Society of New Zealand. This prestigious award is awarded to only 6 living recipients and acknowledges Colin’s decades of dedication to bird conservation in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
