Note this venue is different from our normal one!!
Dr Ann Brower will speak on the Background to the Crown Pastoral Lease reform and Nicky Snoyink (Regional Conservation Manager of Forest and Bird) on Conservation and Public Land issues.
The Crown Pastoral Land Reform Bill, currently before Parliament, will end the 30-year programme of voluntary ‘tenure review’. Tenure review allows pastoral leaseholders to separate the public land on long term lease from the Crown into two types: farmland privately owned and conservation land held by the Crown. Tenure review has had some alarmingly controversial outcomes and failures.
A better way is needed and may be found in the Environment Select Committee report on the Crown Pastoral Land Act Bill due in July.
The No. 3 bus to Sumner passes the Quaker Centre every 15 minutes.
Supper and a chat afterwards.
