Forest & Bird Wellington Branch are excited that Paul Ward, Founder, and Project Lead of the Capital Kiwi Project and Jeff Hall, Field Services Specialist will update us on their ambitious project to restore a large-scale kiwi population to Wellington’s hills.

From Red Rocks to Mākara and northwards, predator traps have been laid and kiwi released. The kiwi is our icon. Most Kiwis have never seen the bird that they are named after in the wild. The Capital Kiwi Project is a community of kiwis that reckon we can and ought to do something about this. The Project’s commitment is to create a future where we share the land with the bird that we take our name from.

Paul and Jeff will talk about the enormous amount of mahi towards establishing a world-class project. Their aim is to ensure that soon the residents of Wellington’s western suburbs, south coast and rural valleys will be falling asleep to the sound of kiwi calling.
