9am meet at Halswell Bowling Club (301 Halswell Road) then proceed to the main carpark, Pacific Drive, Rakaia Huts
The revegetation group has won two awards at the recent Selwyn Awards – for Environmental Action and for Community Volunteering. Rakaia Huts initially settled in the early 1900s, is a fisherman's paradise located at the north side of the Rakaia River mouth. There is an excellent campground. The sea is not safe for swimming, but there are beautiful stones on the beach and you may be able to see visiting seals and dolphins.
Self-Drive and ride sharing - so please state if you are looking for a ride, or are willing to offer a place in your car.
There is a walk 1½ hours, then return for lunch. The track can be muddy, depending on the tides and lagoon levels. Boots best!! Please bring your own lunch and a cup for a drink. Hot water tea, coffee, milk supplied at the Community Room. After lunch, free time to explore!
Please book by 14 October with Eleanor so we can inform you if there is a change of plans.
