Kamya Patel: The knowns and unknowns of sleeping in the city - Disturbing bird sleep and what it means for their survival
Join us for a talk by University of Auckland PhD student Kamya Patel who is exploring how sleeping in the city affects birds. We all know that sleep is important and that even just one bad night of sleep can affect us for several days. Birds sleeping in the city are surrounded by bright lights, traffic noise and people. However, we know almost nothing about how much they are affected and what happens when they don’t get enough sleep.
In this talk, Kamya will summarise what we know so far about sleep disturbance in birds and what we really need to find out.
Kamya has previously been involved in projects examining plastic ingestion in seabirds and carbon fluxes in Mānuka-dominated ecosystems and loves to learn about how wildlife copes in a changing world.
Join us to find out what we know about the nighttime life of our backyard birds.
