This information sheet will help you attend your local public meeting to defend strong freshwater rules.

This information sheet will help branch members and other Forest & Bird supporters attend local public meetings to defend strong freshwater rules. Our goal is to speak up for a healthy environment and balance industry voices.

The Government has proposed changes to the national freshwater policy, and introduced new national standards on agricultural intensification. The attached document is information on what Forest & Bird supports and opposes from their proposals, along with questions and statements Branch members can use to make a real impact.

The consultation meetings organised by Ministry for the Environment start on Monday 9 September. Click here to see all the meeting dates on the Ministry's website.

You can also read a fact sheet on the state of our fresh water in New Zealand prepared by four independent environment NGOs.

You can also read our press release endorsing the intent of new Government policies on fresh water.

We can have sparkling local rivers for swimming in, and healthy wetlands where kōtuku/white heron are feeding, and tuna/eels are returning to their ancestral waters. Having a strong new national policy and stricter standards will put us on the path to restoring fresh water in New Zealand.

Nature needs your support

Supporting Forest & Bird is one of the best things you can do for New Zealand's environment. We need people like you to support us, so that nature will always have a voice.
