Save conservation land

Save conservation land

Join us in asking all political parties to keep conservation land safe for future generations.

We’re lucky in New Zealand to have lush rainforest, wild beaches, icy mountains, and golden tussocklands. Public conservation lands are so central to what it means to be a New Zealander. We tramp, ski, hunt, climb, paddle, picnic, and camp in these places; often it is just enough to know they are there.

With nature and our climate in deep trouble it’s more important than ever that New Zealand’s public conservation land is well protected.

Instead this Government is making it easier to destroy and develop, with politicians making disparaging comments about public conservation land to build a mandate for more mining.

It's time to tell all political parties how much you care about conservation land.

Dear...

I am writing to urge current and future governments of New Zealand look after the conservation land we love.

Please ensure there are no new mines on conservation land, that national parks are not turned into game parks, and that biodiversity on our public conservation land is well protected. New Zealand needs habitat for kiwi, not new coal mines, and the Denniston Plateau is too precious to destroy.

Our mountains, ancient rainforests, tussocklands, and wild rivers should not be:

  • DestroyedFast track laws should not be able to remove environmental safeguards and public consultation. Feral introduced browsing animals should not be encouraged to eat their way through conservation land.
  • Sold off – Proposals to modernise conservation management should make it easier to save conservation land, not sell it off.
  • UndervaluedConservation stewardship land should be reclassified according to its ecological values, not intended private use. In a warming climate, we need our forests and wetlands more than ever.

Please write back and tell me what you are doing to save public conservation land for people and for nature, not private development.

Nature needs your support

Supporting Forest & Bird is one of the best things you can do for New Zealand's environment. We need people like you to support us, so that nature will always have a voice.
