Tēnā koe Minister of Finance,
We urge you to allocate significant government funding to the proposed National Pest Management Plan for kauri dieback.
This plan is currently sitting with Cabinet and the funding is urgent and long overdue. This government promised to “accelerate” the response on kauri more than two years ago, yet nothing has changed on the ground.
Kauri are still dying. More trees get infected every day. Local councils do not have the resources or the power to manage this disease by themselves.
We want the National Pest Management Plan and a dedicated kauri dieback management agency to be put in place before the election in September.
Please take action now and help us save kauri from a real possibility of extinction.
Thank you.
