A giant nudibranch and an over-sized crayfish greeted over 50 Nelsonians at the F&B stall at Cable Bay for Seaweek. Enthusiastic children, adults and grandparents hopped over the rocks to the low tide pools to see what they could find. Rod Asher and other scientists from Cawthron Institute informed people on the different species and how to collect and handle the plants and animals without harming them. The most interesting ones for the kids were the various crabs, starfish, rockfish, chitins, squirts and anemones. We were really grateful to Rod and his colleagues for being prepared to answer a couple of hours of questions but they seemed to be very happy to share their knowledge.
