Otago Region

Forest & Bird has lots of exciting projects in Otago you can be part of. These include bringing back seabirds to breed on the coastal cliffs and promontories around Dunedin and the region, and predator control to protect mohua in the Southern Alps foothills. You can help ensure the highly endangered hoiho or yellow-eyed penguin doesn’t disappear from the New Zealand mainland or help control the spread of wilding pines.

Our branches are always looking for help in making submissions and lobbying local, regional and central government to protect our natural treasures against inappropriate development. They also play an important role in educating their local communities about the natural treasures in their region and the importance of protecting and enhancing them. Our members can take a well-earned break at the Tautuku Cabins in our Lenz Reserve, a great base for exploring the stunning Catlins region.
