We are helping the Port Hills rangers create a corridor of native bush up a valley behind Sumner (off Evans Pass Rd). On this working-bee, we'll be trimming the long grass from around the native plants and using it to mulch them.

Conservation laws need to keep nature at their heart

Forest & Bird is welcoming Government plans to update conservation laws, with Chief Executive Kevin Hague saying it is time to design a system that is fit for purpose in the 21st century.

Tracks: There is one track on the reserve that takes around 50 minutes to complete.

Getting there: The reserve is located in the Turakina Valley, on Mangahoe Rd, 20kms west of Hunterville. From State Highway 3 at Turakina, the reserve can be accessed by travelling 26km up the Turakina Valley Road, turning left and then continuing 5km along Mangahoe Road. A foot-bridge over the Mangahoe Stream leads into the reserve.

Forest & Bird is calling on He Waka Eke Noa to put their plan to price agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in the bin because even He Waka Eke Noa says it wont actually cut emissions.
